My Review of Bovine Tricks

The beginning of Bovine Tricks too me by surprise — a good one. I chose this book because of the 'romance' and 'suspense' in the description that I read.

In the first couple of pages, as I read about human animals, it made me pause. This subject was unchartered territory for me. Bovine Tricks has intelligence agentsMI6 and FBI talking romance and emotions and kids when they are not solving mysteries; it has royalty caught up in weird (excuse the word, but as I mentioned beforeunchartered territory) fetishes in the clutches of human traffickers; and it has the thrill of solving a crime.

Interestingly, Tillie (our protagonist and an MI6 agent) is struggling with the concept of Hucows and other human animals as the story beginsyou, as a reader, discover and frown at and gasp at this world along with her. Along with her are her partner (personal and professional), Abdul, and two American agents, Diana and Anders. The history among the agents from the different countries adds to the tension as they struggle to find and free Lady Annabelle Trask. Tillie does, however, get carried away once too often, and has others, especially Abdul trying to get her to calm down. Their chemistry is interesting to read but did make me hope that Tillie was a stronger, more-in-control character.

All in all, Bovine Tricks was a fun read for me with the mystery-solving and romance in the backdrop of a world where humans are choosing to or are made to get physical enhancements to resemble certain animals. An imaginative, thrilling tale.
